Turkey Country Manager
Zafer Baysal is Turkey Country Manager at Amstar and is responsible for various asset management and fundraising initiatives for Amstar’s investments in Turkey.
Mr. Baysal has over 20 years of real estate and financial services experience in Turkey and Eastern Europe. Prior to joining Amstar, Mr. Baysal was an executive board member of Renaissance Holding and represented Renaissance Group in Turkey’s Trade Council of Shopping Centers and Retailers (AMPD) as Vice Chairman, Board Member and President of the Shopping Centers Group. Prior to joining Renaissance in 2006, Mr. Baysal was an Executive Vice President with Bayindirbank.
Mr. Baysal received his undergraduate degree from TED Ankara College, his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University and an MBA from Bilkent University, in Ankara, Turkey.
Cameron Croy joined the firm in 2016 and is responsible for underwriting new acquisitions, evaluating development opportunities and managing a portion of Amstar's international portfolio.
Prior to joining Amstar, Mr. Croy was an analyst with Edens, a private East Coast retail REIT.
Mr. Croy graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University.
Savas Gencer is an Associate at Amstar. Mr. Gencer joined the firm during 2011 and provides oversight of the development, asset management, and disposition of Amstar’s investments in Turkey.
Prior to joining Amstar, Mr. Gencer was an analyst at the Industrial Development Bank of Turkey and in the Real Estate Investment & Project Development department of Migros Ticaret A.S. He is based in Amstar’s Istanbul office.
Mr. Gencer received a degree in City & Regional Planning from Middle East Technical University and attended various real estate courses at NYU.
He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Urban Land Institute (ULI).
Samuel D. Herman joined Amstar during 2011 and is actively involved in all aspects of Amstar’s investments in Europe and emerging markets from acquisition through divestiture.
Prior to joining Amstar, Mr. Herman worked as an Analyst with Resource Land Holdings and Canaccord Adams. Mr. Herman is a CFA Charterholder and member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Colorado. He is also a member of ULI and NAIOP.
Mr. Herman graduated with high distinction from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Finance.
Gaurav Kukreja is a Director and Senior Vice President at Amstar responsible for investments, asset management, fundraising and regulatory compliance. He is also Amstar's Country Manager for India. Mr. Kukreja has more than 14 years experience in real estate and investment banking where he was part of deal teams that executed over $30.0bn of real estate transactions involving mergers and acquisitions, bank financings and leveraged buyouts.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2008, Mr. Kukreja was a senior associate of investment banking in the Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging and Leisure Group of Deutsche Bank AG in New York. Prior to that, he worked at Credit Suisse as an associate of investment banking in the Leveraged Finance Group. Before business school he was director of food & beverage and a member of the W Hotels Opening Team for Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
Mr. Kukreja received a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and a MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
RYAN W. MATHISON
Senior Vice President, Head of Fund Operations
Ryan W. Mathison is a Senior Vice President and joined Amstar international investment funds in 2011 where he is actively involved in Amstar’s investments in Turkey, Russia, Poland and India.
Mr. Mathison has over 16 years of alternative funds experience and previously worked at J.P. Morgan, Schroders and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Mathison is a member of the Canadian and Bermudian Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
Senior Vice President, Development
Ulf Pettersson is a Senior Vice President of Development and is responsible for overseeing the development, construction and property management of Amstar’s projects in Turkey and Russia. Mr. Pettersson is based in Amstar's Istanbul office.
Mr. Pettersson has more than 35 years of experience in construction and real estate development in Western, Central and Eastern Europe as well as in Africa and the Middle East. Prior to his position with Amstar, Mr. Pettersson served as vice president and property director for IKEA and was responsible for the development and construction of eleven ‘Mega’ shopping centers in Russia. Prior to that Mr. Pettersson was the country manager for Skanska in the Czech Republic. Mr. Pettersson’s professional history includes work on projects in Sweden, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Hungary and Spain.
Mr. Pettersson holds Master's Degrees in Civil Engineering and Business Economics.
H. IBRAHIM TORUN
Vice President, Turkey Finance Manager
H. Ibrahim Torun is a Vice President and Amstar’s Turkey Finance Manager. Mr. Torun is a Certified Public Accountant with over twenty years of experience in finance, tax, and accounting. Before joining Amstar in 2008, Mr. Torun worked in senior management roles at Independent Accountants, Dogadan Company, SRK Consulting, Arthur Andersen and the Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Torun received a B.A. from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
Nicole M. Bauer
Vice President, Controller
Nicole Bauer is a Vice President and Controller at Amstar. Ms. Bauer is responsible for global cash management across the Amstar organization. She is also responsible for the oversight of both property and corporate level accounting and reporting.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2012, Ms. Bauer was an auditor with CBIZ MHM, LLC, primarily specializing in clients within the real estate sector.
Ms. Bauer graduated from Illinois State University, earning a B.S and M.S. in Accounting.
Senior Vice President
Brian Cornell, CFA, is a Senior Vice President at Amstar responsible for executing acquisition, operational, and capital strategies for several Amstar holdings. Mr. Cornell originally joined the firm in 2006 and has 14 years of commercial real estate experience encompassing asset management, acquisitions, brokerage, and financial planning and analysis.
Previously Mr. Cornell served as VP- Asset Management for Broe Real Estate, a Denver-based private equity firm. He began his career at Secured Capital (now Eastdil Secured) as part of a Los Angeles investment sales team that closed in excess of $3.5 Billion transaction value from 2002- 2005.
Mr. Cornell graduated cum laude with a B.S.E. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a CFA Charterholder and member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Colorado.
President of Green Tea Hotels, Vice President, Amstar
As a Vice President of Amstar, Adam Hawthorne contributes to the company’s hospitality investment success. Serving as the President of the portfolio’s award-winning Travaasa Experiential Resorts, Mr. Hawthorne is responsible for the overall performance of the brand’s growing collection – which currently includes two properties: Travaasa Austin and Travaasa Hana, Maui.
In addition to leading a team of industry professionals as they manage day-to-day operations at both locations, Mr. Hawthorne also oversees Travaasa’s growth and strategic direction, leading the brand as it continues to create unique experiential travel offerings in the destination resort market.
Mr. Hawthorne graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Denver and has two certificates from Cornell University, one in Hotel Revenue Management and a second in Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management.
Jenny A. Jacobs is a Vice President at Amstar. She joined the firm during 2010, and in her role is responsible for underwriting, acquisition, asset management and disposition of multifamily, condominium, industrial, office, retail, and hospitality properties within Amstar's U.S. portfolio.
Previously, Ms. Jacobs worked in the Real Estate Investment Banking group at Barclays Capital in New York. Prior to that, she was an analyst in the Real Estate Investment Banking group at Lehman Brothers. She has completed IPO, M&A, and financing transactions in excess of $3 billion.
Ms. Jacobs graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University. She is a member of ULI and NAIOP.
Edward J. Kerzner
Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance
Edward J. Kerzner is a Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance at Amstar, responsible for all aspects of Amstar’s accounting, tax and budget operations. A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Kerzner has extensive real estate experience, with an emphasis in taxation. He serves on Amstar's Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Amstar during 1995, Mr. Kerzner was tax director for Capital Associates in Lakewood, Colorado, where he was responsible for all tax aspects of leasing/finance, compliance, research and planning. Before that, he was vice president of tax for Columbia Savings & Loan Association and senior tax manager at KPMG Peat Marwick.
Mr. Kerzner is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a cum laude graduate of St. John’s University in New York, where he also earned his Master’s Degree in Public Accounting, with emphasis in Tax.
Senior Vice President and Head of Amstar's Control, Accounting and Tax
Erin Little is a Senior Vice President and Head of Amstar's Control, Accounting and Tax. She is responsible for the accounting operations across the entire organization, including its international holdings. Prior to joining Amstar in 2008, Ms. Little was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, L.P., primarily specializing in clients within the real estate sector.
Ms. Little graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Accounting.
Paige G. Ranum
Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Paige Ranum is a Vice President of Human Resources at Amstar. She holds responsibility for all aspects of the firm’s human capital strategy, including recruiting, performance evaluations, employee relations, talent development, succession planning, and compensation.
Ms. Ranum’s career has a legal background and her focus has been on human capital effectiveness in the engineering, energy and financial services sector. Before joining Amstar Group, she held human resources positions at Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua and Ciris Energy. Prior to that she held paralegal positions that gave her an excellent understanding of legal implications of state and federal employment laws including EOE, OSHA, Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, and ADA.
Ms. Ranum has a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Strategic Organizational Leadership/HR from Regis University where she graduated with honors in both degrees.
Faraz S. Shahid
Faraz S. Shahid is a Vice President at Amstar and manages Amstar’s Tax compliance. Mr. Shahid is responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and planning across the various Amstar platforms. A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Shahid has extensive tax experience, particularly with regard to multi-tiered partnership/entity taxation, international taxation, ASC 740 income tax provisions, consolidated and multi-state returns, federal and state tax audits, and tax issues specific to the real estate industry.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2006, Mr. Shahid was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, where he specialized in both the tax and assurance/business advisory services.
Mr. Shahid is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Denver, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting with a major in information technology and a minor in economics.
Michael Ullman joined the firm in 2016 and is responsible for underwriting new acquisitions, evaluating development opportunities, and managing a portion of Amstar’s U.S. portfolio.
Mr. Ullman graduated with a B.S. in finance from the University of Florida and a J.D. and MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Associate of Treasury / FP&A
Brittany Witucky is an Associate of Treasury and Financial Planning & Analysis. She is responsible for Amstar’s institutional reporting and performance measurements for both domestic and international portfolios, as well as Amstar’s global cash management.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2015, Mrs. Witucky was a Senior Accountant at EchoStar, a publicly held telecommunications company, responsible for accounting and reporting of a $1B+ marketable securities portfolio.
Mrs. Witucky graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts. She is also a CPA, licensed in the state of Colorado.
