MATTHEW KARP
Chief Executive Officer
Matthew Karp is the Chief Executive Officer of Amstar and is responsible for U.S. acquisitions, new business initiatives, and strategy as well as overseeing asset and portfolio management of Amstar’s U.S. investments. Mr. Karp joined Amstar in 2017 and has over 25 years of real estate investment experience.
Before joining Amstar, Mr. Karp was a Partner and Head of Real Estate for TriSpan LLP, an alternative investment management group, where he directed all elements of investment strategy and capital deployment within real estate. Earlier in his career, Mr. Karp held various senior investment and management positions at Cerberus Capital Management, Savanna Partners, and CPG Real Estate where he was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, structuring, negotiating and asset managing opportunistic real estate equity and debt investments across the U.S. and Latin America/Caribbean.
In 2018, Mr. Karp was appointed by the Governor of Puerto Rico and continues to serve on the Board of Trustees of the GDB Debt Recovery Authority which was a newly formed statutory public trust and government instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Mr. Karp graduated with a BS from Cornell University and received his MBA from Columbia Business School.

Nicole M. Bauer
Vice President, Controller

Nicole Bauer is a Vice President and Controller at Amstar. Ms. Bauer is responsible for global cash management across the Amstar organization. She is also responsible for the oversight of both property and corporate level accounting and reporting.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2012, Ms. Bauer was an auditor with CBIZ MHM, LLC, primarily specializing in clients within the real estate sector.
Ms. Bauer graduated from Illinois State University, earning a B.S and M.S. in Accounting.
Adam Hawthorne
President, Green Tea | Head of Hospitality Investments, Amstar

Adam Hawthorne oversees Amstar’s U.S. hospitality investments. Serving as President of Amstar’s hospitality management/asset management organization, Green Tea, and its award-winning resort brand, Travaasa Experiential Resorts. He has over 20 years of leadership experience within the hospitality industry and has a proven track record of developing teams responsible for improving the financial performance of hospitality assets.
Mr. Hawthorne graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Denver and has two certificates from Cornell University, one in Hotel Revenue Management and a second in Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management. He serves on the board of the Limon Education Foundation and on the advisory board for Preferred Hotels and Resorts.
Sam Herman
Senior Vice President

Sam Herman is a Senior Vice President with Amstar and has been with the firm since 2011. His primary responsibility is sourcing joint venture partnerships and acquisitions for Amstar’s US platform, as well as overseeing asset management and dispositions for Amstar’s US portfolio. He focuses on all product types including multifamily, industrial, office and retail.
Previously, Mr. Herman worked on acquisitions and portfolio management for Amstar’s European Funds business, investing in Turkey, Russia and Poland, and ultimately led the divestiture of many of the firm’s assets in these markets. Prior to Amstar, he worked on acquisitions with Resource Land Holdings, a Colorado-based real estate private equity firm, and as an investment banking analyst with Canaccord Adams in New York City.
Mr. Herman is a CFA Charterholder and an active member of the CFA Society of Colorado and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He graduated with high distinction from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
Ryan W. Mathison
Senior Vice President, Fund Operations

Ryan W. Mathison is a Senior Vice President of Fund Operations and joined Amstar international investment funds in 2011 where he is actively involved in Amstar’s investments in Turkey, Russia, Poland and India.
Mr. Mathison has over 16 years of alternative funds experience and previously worked at J.P. Morgan, Schroders and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Mathison is a member of the Canadian and Bermudian Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
Faraz S. Shahid
Chief Financial Officer

Faraz S. Shahid is Chief Financial Officer at Amstar, and is responsible for all corporate finance matters, including the firm’s financial planning & analysis, accounting, treasury, investor relations, tax, human resources and information technology functions.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2006, Mr. Shahid was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, where he specialized in both the tax and assurance/business advisory sectors.
Mr. Shahid is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Denver, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting with dual minors in Economics and Information Technology. Mr. Shahid is a Certified Public Accountant and belongs to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Tim Slater
Senior Vice President

Tim Slater is a Senior Vice President at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2017, and is responsible for acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions of office, multifamily, industrial and retail properties within Amstar’s U.S. portfolio.
Previously, Mr. Slater worked in the Acquisitions group at LaSalle Investment Management in Chicago underwriting and completing diligence on new acquisitions across the U.S. for LaSalle’s funds and separate accounts. While at LaSalle, he closed transactions in excess of $1.9 billion. Prior to LaSalle, he worked at Wells Fargo in the Real Estate Debt Originations group in Chicago.
Mr. Slater graduated with distinction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.B.A in Real Estate and Finance. He is a member of NAIOP and the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA).
Adam Mucha
Associate

Adam is an Associate at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2021 and is responsible for underwriting, acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions of office, multifamily, industrial, and retail properties within Amstar’s U.S. Portfolio.
Prior to joining Amstar, Adam worked as an Associate at Prime Finance Partners where he was responsible for the underwriting and due diligence of short-term bridge loans. These investments were collateralized by all major real estate asset classes and located throughout the U.S.
Adam graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.B.A. in Real Estate and Finance. He is a member in WREAA.
Scott Butterfield
Supervisor, Property Accounting
Scott Butterfield is Supervisor, Property Accounting at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2013 and is responsible for oversight of asset level accounting for development and existing office, multifamily, industrial, and hotel properties within Amstar’s portfolio as well as bank compliance reporting.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2013, Mr. Butterfield was an auditor with Ernst & Young, LLP, primarily specializing in clients within financial services. Mr. Butterfield graduated from Michigan State University, earning a B.S and M.S in Accounting. He is also a CPA, licensed in the state of Colorado.
Brian Pattison
Senior Associate
Brian is a Senior Associate at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2019 and is responsible for underwriting, acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions of office, multifamily, industrial, and retail properties within Amstar’s U.S. Portfolio.
Prior to joining Amstar, Brian worked as an analyst at Presario Ventures where he was responsible for underwriting, due diligence, and asset management of the firm’s multifamily properties. Prior to Presario Ventures, he was a member of the acquisitions team at Berkeley Partners where he focused on sourcing and underwriting acquisitions across the country.
Brian graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Economics.
Abbey Davis
Senior Associate of FP&A/Corporate Accounting
Abbey Davis is the Senior Associate of FP&A/Corporate Accounting at Amstar and is primarily responsible for the preparation of the firm’s various financial reports, as well as administering certain corporate accounting functions.
Prior to joining Amstar in 2021, Mrs. Davis was a Manager at Venture Back Office.
Mrs. Davis graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from North Carolina State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Jason Katseff
Senior Associate
Jason Katseff is a Senior Associate at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2021 as a member of the US deal team and is responsible for underwriting, acquisitions, dispositions and asset management of office, multifamily and industrial properties across Amstar’s U.S. Portfolio.
Prior to joining Amstar, Jason was an Analyst at Kinship Capital where he was similarly responsible for acquisitions and asset management on a range of opportunistic real estate investment opportunities across the U.S. Prior to Kinship Capital, Jason was a Senior Associate within the Transaction Advisory Services group at Ernst & Young.
Jason graduated from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with a B.S. in Finance & Real Estate.
Christian Thomsen
Senior Analyst
Christian is a Senior Analyst at Amstar. He joined the firm in 2022 and is responsible for underwriting and acquisitions as well as asset management of a portion of Amstar’s U.S. Portfolio.
Prior to joining Amstar, Christian was a Summer Analyst at First Martin Corporation, where he assisted in the underwriting and acquisitions of multifamily properties. Prior to First Martin Corporation, he worked as an intern at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Economics and for Lendlease in New York City.
Christian graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an M.S. in Real Estate in 2022 and a B.S. in Economics in 2021.
